Osaka Castle

osakacastleosakacastle2osakacastle3osakacastle4osakacastle5osakarealOne of Japan’s most celebrated landmarks, Osaka Castle stands on an elevation overlooking a majestic moat. What struck me most when visiting the castle grounds was the height of the edifice – the central building is five stories on the exterior and eight stories on the interior. Such features are not too common for a historic East Asian building and bestow the place with grandeur, especially as you approach it from afar and detect hints of the rooftop rising above a row of trees against an indigo sky. We’d love to return during the cherry blossom season.

Terrific pictures. It was one of the most impression sights I saw in Japan, with the bonus that it’s slap-bang in the middle of the city.

Stunning! I can only imagine how beautiful it is there and I quite agree – cherry blossom season would be a wonderful time of year to visit. Hopefully one day I’ll get there!
