A haven for indie magazines, artsy books, cool stationery, records and the like, Your Mind in Seoul, Korea is a meticulously curated shop that you could easily lose yourself in, doting on say, a niche foodie title, or rifling through a selection of cards and CDs.
The look of the place is what first drew us in – its high ceilings and tall windows lend a bright and airy feel, alongside stark white walls and minimal wooden accents and furnishings that exude serenity. The sprawling, built-in bookcase particularly impresses, complete with a moving ladder for those hard-to-reach volumes. There’s even a quote by Shakespeare imprinted on the window: “Our bodies are our gardens; to the which our wills are gardeners.” The message is clear; this is where lovers of the written word and the arts convene to pick up their latest read, and in doing so, support the ever-growing community of independent publishing.
The owner, Iro, is the kind of gent that makes you feel instantly at ease. He smiles and greets as you enter, but leaves you in peace so you can browse at your own pace. But feel free to pick his brain if you’ve got any queries, he’s a treasure trove of information when it comes to the latest publications and deciphering which ones would suit you best.
